I was working as a professional firefighter/paramedic and trying to cook for a two company dinner, about seven guys total. It came time to prep everything and I found all the knives were dull as the floor. I couldn’t believe that guys who always had their gear and tools ready to go, did not have knives that could be used at all. I got into trying to use home kitchen sharpeners and honing steels. I got really good at making edges straight again.

Getting closer to retirement, I decided to look into making sharp knives for others. Seeing the joy in the eyes of my family and friends, their knives new and sharp, I thought about turning it into a real business.

My wife of 28 years and our two grown children, moved to Mount Angel in 2021. As we met people, we fell in love with this small town. There are few local sharpeners here and I really wanted to help others long after my career in the fire service was wrapped up.
